If you’re a Jennings superfan, you don’t need us to explain what a seasonal beer is.
What you do want to know is this:

Two beers from the Jennings archives are making a comeback.

From the brewing books of past Jennings Head Brewers, to today’s modern brewhouse, we’re bringing back Golden Host and (yes… really) World’s Biggest Liar.

This isn’t nostalgia for nostalgia’s sake. This is about heritage, ingredients, and brewing them for today’s drinkers.

Golden Host returns – A Spring classic reimagined

First brewed by Jennings decades ago, Golden Host has long been remembered as one of those perfectly judged spring ales - light in colour, but a depth of character.

Inspired by a poem by William Wordsworth, the most famous literary son of Cockermouth, Golden Host was always rooted in place. In landscape. In that particular Cumbrian shift from winter to spring.

This year, we’ve gone back to the original brew sheets from the Jennings archive.

Buster, our Head Brewer, explains:

“When we opened up the old Jennings brewing books and found Golden Host, it wasn’t just a recipe - it was a snapshot of how beer was brewed at that time. The malt bill, the hop choices, even the way it was described on the sheet - you can feel the brewery’s confidence in it.

My job isn’t to reinvent it - it is to respect it. We’ve kept the heart of the beer exactly as it was designed, that bright golden colour, the floral lift on the nose, but we’ve fine-tuned it with the addition of UK grown Cascade hops, so it drinks beautifully for today’s palate.”

The result?
A beautifully yellow-gold hued ale, layered with gentle floral aromatics and a clean, refreshing finish, brewed to welcome in lighter evenings and that first proper spring sunshine. Prepare to see Golden Host back in your hands by this Spring!

For those who remember it, expect a smile of recognition.
For those discovering it for the first time, expect to understand why it’s remembered.

And yes… World’s Biggest Liar is back

We couldn’t talk about comebacks without mentioning World's Biggest Liar.

Originally brewed to celebrate the annual World’s Biggest Liar competition held in Cumbria, this beer quickly earned its status. Darker, richer, and full of character, it became one of those seasonal releases people would actively hunt down.

Bringing it back wasn’t a casual decision.

Buster again:

“World’s Biggest Liar has real personality. It’s bold, it’s unapologetic, and it’s distinctly Jennings. That’s the beer and the event too! When people talk about things they miss about Jennings, this comes up time and time again.

We will be looking to bring the World’s Biggest Liar competition back later this year (Autumn), alongside reviving the beer, which goes hand in hand. We will go back to the original recipe - darker malts for a beautiful blue and purple striped colour, with aromas of tin and fluffy clouds, and the refreshing aftertaste of onomatopoeia!"

Fancy 5 minutes to tell your best lie? Event date yet to be announced, but stay tuned for more…

What else is brewing?

Alongside these returning legends, 2026 will still see new ideas stepping into the spotlight - including Tryumph, our rugby-inspired seasonal brewed with the Six Nations Championship in mind (Currently on offer in the Jennings Taproom), and an upcoming collaboration with Thomas Fawcetts - our splendid maltsters.

But make no mistake: the headline this year is heritage.

Seasonal brewing is something Jennings has always done - but this year feels different and is our first proper year back in business.

This isn’t just about experimentation. This is about reconnecting with the Jennings identity.

As Buster puts it:

“Jennings has always been about balance and drinkability, but also about brewing beers that belong here.

Going back into the archives reminds you that great beer doesn’t always have to chase trends. It stands the test of time. That’s why we want to bring seasonals back alongside our core ranges.”

For those who’ve followed Jennings for years, this is more than a seasonal rotation.
It’s a signal that the archives matter. The history matters. The original brewing books still have a voice in what we do next!

Final words from our Head Brewer

We’ll leave the last word where it belongs - with Buster:

“Brewing is part science, part creativity - but at Jennings, it’s also stewardship. We’re looking after recipes that meant something to people long before we ever touched them.

When someone walks into the Taproom and sees Golden Host on the bar again, I want that first sip to take them straight back, but I also want it to stand up to any modern pale ale alongside it.

And when World’s Biggest Liar pours dark and steady into the glass, it should feel exactly how a Jennings beer should feel: confident, balanced, and brewed with intent.

Seasonal beers come and go. But the good ones? They earn their return.”

So, if you see them on the bar, don’t assume they’ll wait around.

Some legends don’t stay quiet for long.
