World’s Biggest Liar 2016 is crowned

Contestants gave us and evening of falsehoods, fabrications, white lies and whoppers at the Bridge Inn, Santon.
The competition was fierce as 10 applicants stood infront of the packed out pub delivering their tall tales in a bid to become the World’s Biggest liar 2016. George Kemp pipped defending world title holder Monkey Liar at the post. The only female contestant Helen Jordan came in third, but all contestants did a fabulous job of entertaining the crowds.
The competition which dates back to the 19th century pits entrants against one another to see who can create the greatest hyperbole. It originates from perhaps the most infamous Cumbrian Will Ritson (1808 – 1890) whose tales detailed the apparantly gigantic turnips of the Wasdale area, to go along with the highest mountain (scafell Pike) the smallest church and the deepest lake.
