In Case You Missed It: Our big announcements this month...
What a month it's been! If you’ve been caught up in the whirlwind of life (we get it!) or simply don't use social media and missed some of our exciting updates, don’t worry - we’ve got you covered. Here’s a quick roundup of all the big news we shared over the past few weeks. Grab a beer and let's catch you up.
Our core beer line up
First up - we officially announced our core beer line up! I think most of you will be pleased to see some of the favourite traditional ales back! Our Head Brewer, Buster is super excited to have these beers in production again and can't wait to get them back in your hands sooner than expected! Bringing the history and heritage of Jennings back to Cockermouth.
So, say hello and welcome back to... Sneck Lifter, Cumberland Ale, Cocker Hoop and Castle Bitter.
Sneck Lifter : 5.1% abv
First brewed in 1990, this has become one of the most revered beers in the Jennings portfolio (and the one we've been most asked to bring back!). Brewed with Maris Otter pale, amber and a dash of pale chocolate malts, and a blend of Fuggles, Goldings and Challenger hops - some of the UK's most respected varieties.
These will combine for a glorious deep amber ale, with russett highlights and a warming character. Complex flavours of dried fruits and hints of spice make a perfect beer to savour, whatever weather the Lake District gives you!
Sneck Lifter, in Northern dialect, means someone's last sixpence, which allowed them to lift the latch of a pub door and buy a pint of beer, with hopes that another friendly face inside would buy them a couple more.
Cumberland Ale : 4.0% abv
The iconic beer of the North West - Using the famous Jennings Well water, Maris Otter malt with just a dash of Pale Chocolate malt to create the deep Golden Colour, and a classic blend of Fuggles, Goldings and Challenger, which give a beautiful fruitiness, hints of subtle spice and the well-rounded bitterness you'd expect from a timeless English Pale Ale.
Cumberland is Jennings' best-selling ale outside of the Lake District and had become a Nationwide favourite!
Cocker Hoop : 4.6% abv
We’re ‘cocker-hoop’ about announcing this one! By high demand and an all-time favourite!
A renowned pale golden bitter brewed with Jennings well water, Maris Otter Pale malt, and a blend of wheat and oats to create the crisp golden colour and deep head. Goldings hops provide a subtle spicy bitterness and Celeia hops provide a noble floral citrus aroma. First brewed 30 years ago, this classic Golden Ale looks set to become a firm favourite once again.
The name comes from ‘Cock-a Hoop’ which is the act of removing the spigot/cock from the barrel and putting it on the hoop of a cask before drinking. This was then changed to ‘cocker’ to reflect the Brewery’s location, along the river Cocker in Cockermouth, Cumbria.
Castle Bitter : 3.4% abv
We're bringing back your beloved bitter beer once known as Jennings 'Bitter'! Say hello to 'Castle Bitter' - the same classic taste you love, with a name that proudly reflects its location and heritage, situated alongside the Cockermouth Castle wall, as the Castle Brewery.
A reimagined version of Jennings' classic Lakeland Bitter - whilst modest in strength it's full flavour with plenty of body. Jennings Well water is blended with Maris Otter pale malt, with additions of Amber, Crystal and Pale Chocolate to give depth of flavour and a beautiful copper colour. Fuggles hops provide a gentle but pleasingly noticeable bitterness, whilst Challenger and Goldings deliver the fruity, slightly spicy aroma of Classic English Pale Ales.

Shiny new things
Our brew kit landed and installation took place. It feels like Christmas for the team here at Jennings and we have a very happy head brewer.
We also welcomed Gavin, our new Taproom Manager to the team who is ready to welcome you all back to Jennings come mid-June.
Refurbishment to the Taproom and Brewhouse began! It's amazing what a bit of paint and love can do. Our new (old) brewery is beginning to look incredible again, restored to its former glory. More importantly, we'll be making incredible beer again, true to the recipes handed down to us by brewing forefathers.
Launch and trade pre-orders
Startup mode: complete. Party mode: pending!
Jennings is back and we will be launching in June! We will be putting Jenning’s beers back into your hands sooner than expected, tours will be starting up again and we will have a refurbished taproom open to the public. Beers will be available to purchase in the Jennings taproom and online via our website. We hope you’re all as excited as we are! Keep your eyes peeled for our launch date and further information.
Whether you're a local favourite or a hidden gem, we’d love to work with you.
